Internet Appliance Modem
from Cermetek
Direct machine-to-machine interaction represents the
next logical extension of the internet. Using e-mail,
information can easily be transferred between systems
and can be transmitted/retrieved at will. Internet e-mail
provides low cost, near real time multi-path communi-
cation. Access is as close as the nearest PSTN (Public
Switched Telephone Network) phone line connection.
Cermeteks Internet Appliance Modems (IAM) are
designed to facilitate the utilization of machine-to-
machine interactions via the internet.
After initial setup, the IAMs machine-to-machine
activities proceed transparently with the level of
control desired by the user. This also includes fully
autonomous (i.e., no human intervention) operation by
relying on the internal intelligence of the Internet
Appliance Modem.

Operational Overview
Cermeteks Internet Appliance Modem (IAM) Family
is the industrys first group of self-contained miniature
modules which offer a complete PSTN internet ISP
connectivity solution. Furthermore, the IAM can
operate autonomously without the need for host
processor intervention.
The IAM Family offers a variety of internet communica-
tion features ranging from simple on demand or event
triggered e-mail transmission (CH2156) to full send and
retrieve e-mail (CH2160). Internet communication
control of the IAM is exercised by using one of the
following basic control methods:
1. Fully Autonomous or event driven control requiring
no host processor intervention.
2. Semi-autonomous control, requiring one command
to be issued from the host processor.
3. Complete host intervention and supervision.
When using an implementation scheme utilizing a host
processor, the host controls the IAM by using Cermetek
iNet@T Commands which are extensions of the
standard Hayes AT command set.
