Description
The TC642B/TC647B devices are new versions of the existing TC642/TC647 FAN speed CONTROLLERs. These devices are switch mode, FAN speed CONTROLLERs that incorporate a new FAN auto-restart function. Temperature-proportional speed control is accomplished using pulse width modulation. A thermistor (or other voltage output temperature sensor) connected to the VIN input supplies the required control voltage of 1.20V to 2.60V (typical) for 0% to 100% PWM duty cycle. Minimum FAN speed is set by a simple resistor divider on the VMIN input. An integrated Start-Up Timer ensures reliable motor start-up at turn-on, coming out of shutdown mode or following a transient fault. A logic-low applied to VMIN (pin 3) causes FAN shutdown.

General Description
The MAX31785 is a closed-loop multichannel FAN CONTROLLER. Automatic closed-loop FAN control saves system power by operating the FANs at the lowest possible speeds. Added benefits of slower FAN speeds include lower audible noise, longer FAN life, and reduced system maintenance. Based on a user-programmable lookup table (LUT), the device automatically adjusts the speeds of the six independent FANs based on one or more of the 11 available temperature sensors. Alternately, an external host can manually command the FAN speeds and the device automatically adjusts the FAN speeds. The device contains a FAN-health-diagnostic function to help users predict impending FAN failures. The device can also monitor up to six remote voltages.

General Description
The TC649 is a switch mode, FAN speed CONTROLLER for use with brushless DC FANs. Temperature proportional speed control is accomplished using pulse width modulation (PWM). A thermistor (or other voltage output temperature sensor) connected to the VIN input furnishes the required control voltage of 1.25V to 2.65V (typical) for 0% to 100% PWM duty cycle. The TC649 automatically suspends FAN operation when measured temperature (VIN) is below a user programmed minimum setting (VAS). An integrated Start-up Timer ensures reliable motor start-up at turn-on, coming out of shutdown mode, auto-shutdown mode or following a transient fault.
In normal FAN operation, a pulse train is present at SENSE (Pin 5). The TC649 features Microchip Technology’s proprietary FANSenseTM technology for increasing system reliability. A missing pulse detector monitors this pin during FAN operation. A stalled, open or unconnected FAN causes the TC649 to trigger its Start-up Timer once. If the fault persists, the FAULT output goes low, and the device is latched in its shutdown mode. See Section 5.0, “Typical Applications”, for more information and system design guidelines.
The TC649 is available in the 8-pin PDIP, SOIC and MSOP packages and is available in the industrial and extended commercial temperature ranges.

General Description
The TC652/TC653 are integrated temperature sensors and brushless DC FAN speed CONTROLLERs with FANSense™ technology. The TC652/TC653 measure their junction temperature and control the speed of the FAN based on that temperature, making them especially suited for applications in modern electronic equipment. The FANSense™ FAN Fault detect circuitry eliminates the need for a more expensive 3-wire FAN.
Temperature data is converted from the on-chip thermal sensing element and translated into a fractional FAN speed from 40% to 100%. A temperature selection guide in the data sheet is used to choose the low and high temperature limits to control the FAN. The TC652/TC653 also include a single trip point over temperature alert (TOVER) that eliminates the need for additional temperature sensors. In addition, the TC653 includes an auto FAN shutdown function for additional power savings.
The TC652/TC653 are easy to use, require no software overhead and are therefore the ideal choice for implementing thermal management in a variety of systems.

General Description
G760 is a single chip solution for FAN speed control, packaged in a space saving SO-8 package. It connects directly to the FAN and performs closed-loop control of the FAN speed. The only external component required is a 10µF capacitor. It determined the current FAN speed based on the FAN rotation pulses and an externally supplied clock. It uses pulse width modulation (PWM) method and an on-chip MOSFET to control the FAN speed to ±2% of the programmed speed. The desired FAN speed is programmed via the SMBus. The actual FAN speed and FAN status can be read via the SMBus. Short-circuit protection is implemented to prevent damages to the FAN and this IC itself. An On/Off control pin is also provided.
