The S6551/S6551A is an Asynchronous Communication Interface Adapter (ACIA) intended to provide interfacing for the microprocessors to serial communication data sets and modems. A unique feature si the inclusion of a on-chip programmable baud rate generator, with a crystal being the only external component required.
